Other Artists Who Have Performed at the Sandbox:

House Concerts at the SandBox

The back yard at the Sandbox (117 E. Saturn Lane) is spacious and shady and there are lots of comfy places to sit and strum -- or listen while others strum. In other words, it is a damn fine spot for great music. Most Wednesday nights the Saturn Street Strummers (mostly ukes) gather to play just for fun at the Sandbox. But a few nights of the year I bring in some of my personal favorite singer/songwriters. The music-loving public is warmly welcomed.

In general, shows are scheduled early enough in the evening to keep the noise complaints to a minimum. Sometimes we have a cozy fire in the fire pit. Sometimes we do a potluck, and we always pass the hat for the performer - suggested donation is $10-$20.

Nobody is going to get rich or famous playing here, (well, probably not, anyway) but the perfomer gets to enjoy a night or three in the Annex (a brand new studio apartment/green room on the ground floor) or - if it isn't rented - the spacious condo upstairs. We try very hard to raise (hopefully) enough cash to pay for the gas it takes to get here (at the very least) and the island locals get a chance to hear music they wouldn't otherwise get to hear -- in a unique island setting. Many of whom will show their appreciation by buying a cd or two.

In the unlikely event of inclement weather, the concert can be moved upstairs (if it is not rented out!) to the living area which can accommodate 30-40 people fairly comfortably.

WELCOME TO THE MIRACLE!
by raybo

WELCOME.  I was first introduced to the idea of a house concert by one of the most intriguing storytellers and songwriters I will ever know; Brian Cutean (QTN).   Brian is a treasure of the Pacific NorthWest, and the grooviest backbone of the long running  Kerrville Folk Festival,  Kerrville,  TX.  I went to see him play a house concert in Austin one evening years ago, and I learned so very much. more....

For Guests: Parking is a bit of an issue so we suggest carpools or biking it if at all possible. You can park on the shoulder as long as you don't block a driveway - make sure you are completely off the road or risk getting a ticket. The Sandbox is just 2 doors down from Blackbeards which has great food and drinks -- and lots of parking ;-)

Take the stone path on the east side of the house to the gate and thank you for giving generously when the hat gets passed.

For Performers: I am partial to original, unplugged folky-bluesy music. Depending on my vacation rental bookings, I may be able to offer you a nice place to stay for multiple nights. If nothing else, I can put 1-2 people up in The Annex.

I do have a small PA that works well in the space -- but you may want to bring your favorite mic.
